Full and part-time permanent positions and temporary seasonal positions are available. These positions will be a part of our team based out of Williston, VT. The successful candidates will work with our installation teams to install custom awning and shade products throughout Vermont, parts of New York and New Hampshire.

Otter Creek Awnings, Vermont’s leading awning company, is looking to hire energetic Temporary Seasonal Installers during the months of April through October.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Awning Installer

FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager 
TYPE: Full and Part-time permanent positions available as well as Temporary Seasonal positions

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Physical work for a full eight-to-ten hour workday
  • Follow processes and procedures to completion
  • Lift at least fifty pounds (50) repeatedly during the workday and lift overhead
  • Be at work by 7:00AM

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Training provided on the job
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Comfortable with heights and climbing a ladder
  • Self-motivated
  • Have a positive and professional attitude
  • Valid Driver’s license and clean driving record

PAY

Awning Technical Designer

Otter Creek Awnings is Vermont’s #1 awning company based in Williston, VT and we are enthusiastically seeking a Technical Awning Designer!

The Awning Technical Designer is responsible for planning and executing detailed designs of shade structures and custom curtains, selecting appropriate materials, and ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety regulations. This position will collaborate with the Awning Designers, Project Manager, and our manufacturing team to meet both functional and aesthetic needs, maintain design standards, specifications, best practices, and ensure quality control.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

DESIGN DUTIES

  • Convert technical conceptual designs from Awning Designers, Project Manager, and Operation Manager into formal Computer-Aided Designs (CADs) for manufacturing work orders.
  • Decipher, confirm, and design awnings for structural integrity, wind/snow loads and functionality.
  • Act as a resource to Awning Designers, Project Manager, and manufacturing team regarding best practices for structural engineering and awning design.
  • Provide support to Awning Designers for rendering requests.
  • Work closely with Project Manager and OCA Manufacturing to ensure custom projects are made to specifications and deadlines.
  • Maintain design standards, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Work with Vectorworks Architect program to produce and facilitate high-quality technical designs.
  • Design graphic proofs, obtain approvals from clients, and process graphic orders.
  • Process awning graphic orders for application.
  • Determine fabric and material needs based on design concept and work with OCA Manufacturing to process orders.
  • Coordinate fabric certification for fire-retardant requirements.
  • Coordinate powder-coat completion and orders.
  • Communicate and collaborate with manufacturing team to ensure projects are ready for assembly based on design.
  • Assist in quality assurance review for each project to ensure each project is manufactured correctly.
  • Work closely with architects and project representatives on design questions and specifications.
  • Perform quality design checks prior to releasing project for manufacturing.
  • Stay up to date on latest trends in software and shade structure industry trends.
  • Attend weekly office and manufacturing team meetings.
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Requires work with others in a group or team, external customers and vendors, face-to-face and telephone discussions with individuals or teams, written communication, and coordinating or leading others in accomplishing work activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of awning materials/components and design.
  • General knowledge of structural engineering and building codes.
  • Computer skills and extensive knowledge of CAD computer programs for awnings.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Ability to measure, read a tape measure, and decipher designs from technical measurements obtained in the field/on site.
  • Ability to select proper materials for each project.
  • Obtain and ensure appropriate selection and use of equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Use a computer application to enter, manipulate, and format text and numerical data; insert, delete, and manipulate cells, rows, and columns; and create and save worksheets, charts, and graphs.
  • Navigate the Internet to find information, including the ability to open and configure standard browsers; using scroll bars, a mouse, and dialog boxes to work within the computer’s operating system. Being able to access and switch between applications and files of interest.
  • Use a computer application to type text, insert pictures, format, edit, print, save, and retrieve word processing documents.
  • Knowledge of structure and content of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
  • Requires being exact or highly accurate, with strong attention to detail.
  • Punctual attendance.
  • Excellent communication skills and professionalism with OCA team and leadership.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years of CAD experience.
  • Familiarity with awning design, shapes and engineering.
  • General understanding of CAD drawings and technical measuring.
  • General understanding of awning manufacturing components, construction and installation methods.
  • Computer experience that includes, navigating the internet, word processing, graphics and Microsoft Office suite.

PAY

$50,000-$60,000 salary per year
